Joshua gaining momentum on Takam |
It was not an easy evening for Joshua. He had his nose broken through a second-round clash of heads.
Takam, who boxed for Cameroon at the 2004 Olympics before relocating to Paris a year later, fought as a late replacement opponent at 12 days’ notice after Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev injured a shoulder. He lived up to his reputation as a tough opponent.
It was the second time Joshua was taken beyond seven rounds in his pro career. The other time was the 11-round fight against Wladimir Klitschko in April.
With this victory, the British boxer has earned a 20th straight win.
Joshua said "I was trying to break him down round by round, Unfortunately, the ref stopped it. I think people want to see Takam unconscious on the floor. That was where I was trying to get to. I don't have control over the ref's decision."
